My Nam review, You aint a firing squad you piece of shit
My first impressions of Nam are this,
Simply fantastic, the weaps the maps the balance, the difficulty its just epic win.
I vowed from the get go i would only use the weaps associated with each side, M16,60,21, US, Slopes AK,PPSH, etc.
Played a few maps and my fav thus far is Phu Bai its just a great map to play in, only played conquest, so didnt see the size of it on rush , the choppers can be brought down (realistically with sustained heavy machine gun, or massed small arms,
i felled a fair few with my trusty AK
The lack of tracer darts would have had many face palming from Huey domination but its not the case, because of their weakness to Heavy MG and Heavy MGs are mounted on backs of jeeps, balances the air v anti air as they are arent static so you dont have what you get on oasis choppers spiralling round the static AAA rocketing the shit out of it and capitalising on the spawn window.
The weapons have a feel to em, its wierd they feel heavy, the recoil is less but more solid, and the granade launcher, the sound on that is just great, Thoink........boom
The immersivness of its makes it, the sounds are great, yeah its got the soundtrack, but its the effects, They just sound like avery Nam movie youve ever seen, the bugs buzzing, the distant clatter of M16s v the popop of AK it like your sat in the middle of the final battle in platoon.
The only issues i found is im currently not getting any xp post game, so cant advance rank. which i assumed was down to the typical issues associtated with DLC, Which is odd as i got taking down by a guy with rank 35 how the fuck did he do that in a day!!!
A night map would have been ineresting, or even better a map that goes from day to night. giving emphasis on getting the job done quicker.
All in all its what i personally have come to expect with EA and BC2 in general, Yeah it hasnt got the frills and frippary of BO no i cant customise my player tag, and then put that tag on my rifle, so i cant be clever and fashion a swastika like the hand full of utter cunts ive seen on there, no i dont have a endles customisablity by spending fictitious cash on attacments, and making me individual.
They just give you a gun and say right go in there with your mates and win this fucking map.
I think i may have descoverd the root of why i prefer BC2 to COD, COD constantly pushes individuality, directly with the tags the graphics and indirectly cos it makes playing a party a pain in the scrotum, Where as BC2 the word is in the title COMPANY
You have more a sense of being a part of a greater effort, which is reinforced by class selection, all are balanced to act as a funtioning whole.
So thats my opening views on it

Re: My Nam review, You aint a firing squad you piece of shit
...what he said
i so agree on the feel...it is like a 'nam movie! thay have captured it so well! the weapons are great....all as they should be...the flame thrower is balanced....get caught in the open with it and you're buggered, its ideal for tunnels, up close, but doesnt have the range....i used it with effect and also experienced it against...and as long as you see them and are quick, you can easily take it out...
loving the huey! it handles so sell! rockets are great, machines are abit pants on the move, but great when hovering/landing etc...cant wait to "come in hot" drop off/pick up and dust off! machine guns ablazing! tanks are well balanced, i i love the soundtrack when you jump in one! (us) flame thrower on the tank is great, takes out close enemy hiding in shacks......
Maps are great, dont know my way around, but we all know that wont take long, you cant get lost....ok i did, but i was mashed....
i give this dlc 10/10 i just cant fault it at the moment....and im sure they will bring out some new maps soon as well!
and chris is right...the metallic "thoink" is just like the films, all the noises are great and on war tapes (in options) coming through the surround sound...HD....did i mention that?....its just like staring in your own film! obviously i play the battle hardned platoon sergeant, cigar butt, tattoos, scars, sweat soaked khakis, helmet on with the strap undone, m16 in hand, dishing out one liners....keeping up morale....and drinking jim bean or jd...yeah.....i bet being in vietnam was just like that......get killed and respawn.....just like real life...

I think your a bit delusional, if it were a film you would be one of 2 roles, either:-
The green cherry straight of the back of the C-130, struggling in the humid jungle and stumbling into a a VC rigged claymore and being packed home to his sweatheart in a festering body bag
or
The REMF chef stuck in the rear serving food to the grunts, who uses his connections in the PX to run a lucrative morphine peddling racket, Who gets
fragged by a mysterious Specialist while he sleeps in his bed.
Where as i would be a mysterious Specialist, with rumours abounding about his questionable actions on Hill 214, his troops respect him his superiors despise him, But in the mud of the Phu Bai rice paddy fields he cements his reputation as a true instrument of war.

pmsl.....nah...you'd be the one with the "bad foot" skiving off in his pit, so he can smoke, play cards and talk about poontang.....and not get any.....where i'd be up to me nuts in vietnamese guts...HOORAH!!! admittedly some "spurious" ladies may slip through the net...but hell...its 'nam baby! and what happens in nam...stays in nam....except syphlils...that shit travels first class
Re: My Nam review, You aint a firing squad you piece of shit
Got it...played it...and TBH its a great bit of DLC...well worth the tenner!...Looks and plays very "NAM" ...only down side is the fact that the same old probs of the stand alone game are all still here ...but as the DLC goes its rather good!....and this is coming from COD fan
9/10 ....DLC

My thoughts on Vietnam...Did the best game just get better??
Dice have nailed this DLC and got the era bang on, something BO failed to do for me. When i first jumped into a game i thought i was being immersed into Apocalypse Now. The developers over at Dice certainly did their research on this one. The sounds are awesome and i like the touch of music in game.
The graphics may be less than BO but it just adds to the era.
The vehicles are awesome, i've not tried the tanks much, but the Huey is really easy to fly but also really easy to shoot down, i shot one down with 3 clips on the AK47.
If anything its more focussed on team work, and a squad is essential! I've played on my own, with a random squad and as a squad with FrG and its so much more enjoyable with mates who play the game as it should be played.
Graphics 8/10
Sounds 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Value for Money 10/10
Overall 9.5/10

Re: My Nam review, You aint a firing squad you piece of shit
BO £40 and a month of wasting time to pay together as a squad
Nam pack - 5 maps and £10 - I've had more fun with this than I would ever have with BO.
For me BO sits next to my Wa W game ready for zombie action but its possible you may catch me playing it.
Great post by Chris - hit the nail on the head
